Hydroacoustics for density and biomass estimations in aquaculture ponds

چکیده

The use of hydroacoustics is currently being studied and developed as a promising non-intrusive methodology to monitor manage fish stocks in aquaculture farms. main objective this study was develop an acoustic method for the estimation density biomass inland farms test accuracy precision estimates with real data provided by company. conducted sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) production ponds located Seville (Southern Spain). A Simrad EK60 echosounder two split-beam circular transducers operating simultaneously at 200 kHz used hydroacoustic surveys. Two different designs were considered: central trajectories zigzag trajectories. examined order select best sampling design. Due non-homogeneous distribution pond caused avoidance behaviour, response disturbance presented fish, corrected applying theory according probability detection. When corrected, became highly accurate precise respect data, which confirms that proposed adequate. Similarly, weight agreement due specific equations “in situ” study. Although no significant differences recorded regard trajectory (central vs. zigzag), it observed most always obtained Therefore, design appropriate measurements ponds. results provide accurately match supporting potentially valid tool

Blue Crab Aquaculture in Ponds

North Carolina’s Blue Crab Fishery As North Carolina’s number one fishery, blue crabs, Callinectes sapidus, are part of an important industry for numerous coastal communities. The fishery supports commercial fishermen, dealers, gear providers and processors throughout the year. Fluctuations in landings have led to concerns over crab populations and the livelihood of the commercial crabbers they...

An approach to valuing ponds within farming systems for aquaculture

water is an unconventional economic good because it is:-a 'fugitive' and re-usable good,-a public good and often under common property regime,-a stochastically supplied and distributed resource,-subject to economies of scale in provision,-essential to plant and animal life, with no substitute,-associated with many non-market environmental qualities and values. In the context of arid and semi-ar...

Effects of sumithion on growth and production of phytoplankton and zooplankton in aquaculture ponds

Sumithion is an organophosphorous pesticide widely used to control tiger bug in the fish larval rearing pond. The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of sumithion on plankton population abundance in aquaculture pond. The experiment was carried out with three treatments, i.e., ponds with no sumithion (T1), with 1.0 ppm sumithion (T2) and 2.0 ppm sumithion (T3). The water quality p...

Bacterial dry matter content and biomass estimations.

Approximately 20% dry-matter content appears to be an accepted standard value for bacterial cells. We have found that the dry-matter content of bacteria may be more than twice as high as generally assumed. The main reason for the low estimates seems to be that proper corrections for intercellular water have not been made when estimating the wet weight of the cells. Using three different bacteri...
